Celina, Texas
Finding a crematory that takes farm species near Celina
Celina sits in one of the last farm belts of Collin County, where hay ground, cattle pasture and horse properties stretch north toward Gunter and the Grayson County line and west toward Pilot Point. Plenty of owners here have acreage, pens and a barn. When a large animal dies, a provider will ask about gate width, pasture footing and whether a truck can reach the animal without crossing soft ground.
Many Celina families keep horses for riding or raise animals for 4-H and FFA shows, and those animals are often treated as family members. Individual cremation for a horse is possible through regional specialists but costs more than rendering. Ask for a written total, and save something small first, like a halter, a lock of mane or a show ribbon.
Farm vets covering Celina often drive long rounds, so a planned euthanasia may have to fit their route. Ask whether they can come at the start of the day, and whether they'll coordinate with the crematory or collector so the body isn't left waiting. Some rural vets do this so often they'll ring the provider for you.
With roughly 64,427 residents, Celina is the 62nd-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Frisco, about 12 miles (19 km) away, which is where some providers serving Celina are based.
The closest communities we cover are Prosper (6 miles), Little Elm (12 miles) and Frisco (12 miles, a larger centre). Providers serving those towns often travel to Celina too, so it can be worth asking them for a quote.

$600-$1,000[2]
Cremating a 1,000-pound horse was reported to cost about $600-$1,000, depending on location and the price of propane.

How Texas thinks about cremation
With cremation at about 55.7%[1] for people in Texas, providers here serve a mixed market, and not all of them have met a goat. When you ring, describe the animal plainly: species, weight, horned or not, and whether it was euthanized. A provider who asks sensible follow-up questions has usually done this before.
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) is where the Texas figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Celina tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Planning around the seasons in Celina
Celina's long warm season (June, July, August and September) is also fly season, and flies find a body within minutes. An old cotton sheet or a few feed sacks draped over the animal keep them off without trapping heat. Check the body every hour or two if pickup is delayed, and keep the other animals from lying beside it in the sun.
Hot weather in Celina also changes the case for burial. Many places set a time limit after death (US state rules for livestock commonly allow 24-72 hours[4], and other countries set their own), and heat makes the shorter end the realistic one. Digging a deep grave by machine on a 96°F afternoon is hard work. Many keepers find cremation or collection easier to arrange quickly in summer.

Prices by weight for goats, sheep, pigs and birds
By our estimate, private pet cremation in the US gets cheaper per pound as animals get heavier, falling to about $4 a pound at 100 lb[5]. Large-animal cremation drops further, to about $0.80/lb[6] for a horse. A goat or ewe sits between those two, which is why a quote for a farm pet in Celina can look high as a total but fair per pound.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Texas: Texas costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Before you bury or compost in Texas
If your animal was euthanized, the drugs remain in the body and can poison scavenging wildlife, and US drug labels have warned since 2003[8] that such animals need deep burial, incineration or another approved route. That alone rules out a shallow grave. The notes below cover the general rules in Texas; cremation meets all of them.
To find your county or city office in Texas, start with the official Texas local government directory.
We keep Texas's burial and scattering rules in one place: the Texas rules summary. Before a home burial in Celina, also ask the city whether local ordinances add anything.
Step by step, from the field to the ashes
- Stay safe first. Don't try to lift a heavy animal alone, and keep children and dogs back until the body is covered.
- Note the details your vet will ask for: age, recent symptoms, any treatments and whether other animals are unwell.
- Decide on ashes or no ashes. If yes, you need a private cremation; if not, communal cremation or fallen-stock collection are simpler and cheaper.
- Book collection or delivery and describe the ground: slope, mud, gates, distance from a hard track.
- Save a keepsake: fleece, a hoof trim, a few feathers, the bell or tag.
- Record the death if your animal was registered or tagged under livestock rules, so your records stay straight.
Keeping your goat, pig or hen close
Summer heat sets the timeline when a horse, cow or goat dies near Celina: arrangements can't wait long in July. North Texas spring storms can also soak blackland clay into mud that traps trailers for days. Keep the number for a rendering service or large-animal cremation provider handy before you need it. Write down, too, whether the provider charges extra for weekend or holiday calls, since losses rarely happen on a convenient Tuesday.

Questions people ask
Does the Celina climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 96°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
Will I have to travel to Frisco to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Frisco (roughly 12 miles from Celina) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Is cremation common in Texas?
For people, yes: about 55.7%[1] of Texas deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Celina follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Celina?
Usually yes. Prosper is about 6 miles away, Little Elm is about 12 miles away and Frisco is about 12 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I bury my pet goat or sheep on my land in Texas?
Often yes, with conditions such as a time limit, a minimum depth and distances from wells, streams and property lines. Livestock rules usually apply to a pet goat or sheep just as they do to a herd, and cities can ban burial inside their limits. If your animal was euthanized, bury it deep or choose cremation.
Is it normal to lose goats or sheep every year?
Sadly, yes. The USDA counted about 500,000 head[9] of adult goats and kids dying in the US in 2015, and sheep producers lost 6.8% of their flocks in 2019[10]. Losses come with keeping stock, which is why many smallholders plan aftercare early. Our livestock mortality planner helps you think it through.
