What will it cost to cremate your goat, sheep or pig?
Published US pet cremation bands stop at 90 lb, and most sheep, pigs and alpacas weigh more than that. This calculator shows the closest published range for your animal's size, flags when real quotes may run higher, and shows where the money goes.
- Ranges by weight, species and country
- Farm collection and extras on separate lines
- Private vs communal side by side

| Private cremation | $350–$450 |
Private vs communal for this size
Communal
$150–$200
Private
$350–$450
Private costs roughly 2.3× communal here. Only private (and witnessed) cremation returns your pet's own ashes.

Using the calculator
How to get a useful estimate in a minute
- Choose the animal. Goat, sheep or pig is preselected at 150 lb. Switching animal resets the weight to that animal's typical size, and cattle or horses are always priced as large animals.
- Enter the weight in pounds or kilograms. A weigh tape reading or a breed average is fine.
- Pick the type: communal (no ashes back), partitioned, private, or witnessed private.
- Choose your country, since UK, US, Canadian and Australian prices differ. Somewhere else shows US prices in dollars as a guide.
- Tick the extras you expect: home or vet pickup (use it for farm collection), after-hours or weekend service, a paw print keepsake, an upgraded urn or at-home euthanasia.
The result updates as you go: a low-to-high total, a line for each item and a comparison of private against communal for the same animal.
Behind the numbers
How the calculator works out a price
For animals up to 90 lb, the calculator uses CareCredit's published US weight bands for pet cremation, shown below. A 45 lb young pygmy goat or a large turkey falls in the 31 to 50 lb band; a 75 lb wether falls in the 71 to 90 lb band, where private cremation costs noticeably more.
communal $45-75; private $100-175[1]
CareCredit's pet cremation guide lists US communal cremation at $45-$75 and private at $100-$175 for pets up to 30 lb.
31-50 lb: $50-80 / $150-250; 71-90 lb: $100-150 / $250-375[2]
CareCredit lists 31-50 lb pets at $50-$80 communal and $150-$250 private; 71-90 lb pets at $100-$150 communal and $250-$375 private.
communal $150-200; private $350-450[3]
CareCredit lists US communal cremation at $150-$200 and private at $350-$450 for pets over 90 lb.
Above 90 lb, which is exactly where most sheep, dairy goats, alpacas and pigs sit, the published bands run out. Up to 500 lb, the calculator shows the top band, $350 to $450 private and $150 to $200 communal, and above 150 lb it adds a note that such animals are often quoted individually and can cost more. Past 500 lb it switches to equine pricing: cremating a 1,000 lb horse runs about $600-$1,000[4], or roughly $0.80/lb[5] at midpoint by our estimate, scaled to your animal's weight, private only.
communal $30-200; private $100-500+[6]
Extras are shown as typical add-on ranges: home or vet pickup about $50 to $150, after-hours callout $75 to $200, a print keepsake $25 to $75 and an urn upgrade $50 to $300. For UK users, prices draw on the Competition and Markets Authority's findings, which put pet cremation anywhere from GBP 50 to GBP 300+[7] depending on size and type.
Worked example
Two animals from the same smallholding, priced
Take a small US homestead with two animals near the end of their lives: Pip, a 75 lb Nigerian Dwarf wether, and Mabel, a 180 lb Suffolk ewe.
| Pip, goat, 75 lb | Mabel, ewe, 180 lb | |
|---|---|---|
| Communal cremation | $100 to $150 | $150 to $200 shown; real quotes are often individual |
| Private cremation | $250 to $375 | $350 to $450 shown, with a note that it can cost more |
| Home or vet pickup | $50 to $150 | $50 to $150, more if lifting gear is needed |
| Total, private with pickup | $300 to $530 | $400 to $600; treat it as a floor |

Pip is straightforward: most pet crematories will take him, and the published bands apply. Mabel is where it gets harder. Some pet crematories won't accept her at all, and those that do may quote much more than the top dog band. The calculator can only show that band, so it flags her result with a note that animals her size are often quoted individually. Read her total as a floor, not a fair price.
What it means
Reading your result and the private vs communal gap
The cremation line is the published band for your animal's weight, and extras only appear once you tick them, each on its own line. The low end of a band tends to reflect rural providers and the high end busier areas. For animals over 150 lb, expect real quotes at or above the top.
The comparison panel shows what choosing communal would save. UK regulators found communal cremation is 2x to 5x cheaper[8] than individual for the same weight, and the gap tends to be bigger in cash terms for heavier animals. If ashes don't matter to you, communal is a respectful choice, not a lesser one. How prices shift by area is covered on our local pages, and the poll results show how many keepers chose each type.

Know the limits
What the calculator can't tell you
- Whether a provider near you accepts your species at that weight. Many refuse pigs or cap weight.
- The real collection cost, which depends on mileage and how close a vehicle can get.
- Whether cremation is your only legal route, as it often is in England for pet pigs, sheep and goats.
- Local surcharges for weekend or holiday callouts in hot weather.

Next steps
From an estimate to a booked cremation
Once you have a range, add the other costs in the memorial budget planner, such as the vet visit and a marker. For animals over about 250 lb, also run the horse aftercare cost comparison to see burial, rendering and composting next to cremation. Its cremation, rendering and composting inputs come from eXtension's review of horse disposal options.
Then ask two or three providers for a written total. Only 52%[9] of UK cremation buyers remembered getting price information at all, so asking puts you ahead. Or send us the details and we'll find who takes farm animals near you. Our services overview explains each option in full.

Questions people ask
Why is my sheep's estimate so much wider than my goat's?
Because published pet cremation prices stop at around 90 lb. A pygmy goat fits inside those bands, but most sheep, alpacas and pigs don't, and providers price them individually. Past 90 lb the calculator shows the top published band, $350 to $450 for private, and flags anything over 150 lb as often quoted individually, so treat a sheep's figure as a floor.
Does the estimate include the vet's euthanasia fee?
Only if you tick at-home euthanasia, and in the US that adds $325 to $750, a range published for dogs. A farm call for euthanasia is usually billed separately by your vet and varies with distance and species. Add it in the memorial budget planner if you want the whole cost in one place.
Is it cheaper to take the animal to the crematory myself?
Usually, yes. Delivering the animal removes the collection fee, which can be one of the biggest items for a farm animal. You'll need a trailer or truck, help to load safely, and a call ahead so the provider knows what's arriving and when.
Can I use this for a pot-bellied pig?
Yes. Keep Goat, sheep or pig and enter the weight. Pot-bellied and kunekune pigs often weigh 100 to 250 lb, beyond the published pet bands, so the calculator shows the top band with a note that real quotes can run higher. Check early that local providers accept pigs at all.
How accurate are UK results?
They're based on the UK competition regulator's price findings for pets, which cover typical sizes well. Above 40 kg the calculator uses the extra-large dog price, because farm species prices in the UK are rarely published, so treat the result as a guide and ask for a written quote including collection.
