The Army's Parks Reserve Forces Training Area covers a large stretch of open land on Dublin's northern side, and space for keeping livestock within the city is limited. In California, about 70.5%[1] of people are cremated, one of the higher rates around. That doesn't make livestock rules any softer, but it does mean cremation is a normal conversation. Many hobby farmers here choose it for a named goat, alpaca or pet pig partly because it keeps the animal with them if they ever sell the land, and partly because it avoids digging a deep grave by machine.

Weather, bloat and frozen ground in Dublin
Dublin summers are hot, with July highs averaging around 89°F. That shortens the time you have. Burial, composting and reporting rules in California
Composting is an approved route for dead stock in many places: in the 2014–2015 US bird flu outbreak it handled 85%[5] of poultry carcasses, according to the EPA. But it isn't allowed for every species everywhere, and a pile needs careful management. The pet-level picture for California is below; check the livestock rules before you build one.

- Ask the provider three questions: whether the cremation is genuinely private, how they track which animal is which between the gate and the ashes, and when you'll get the ashes back.
- Check the rules before any burial or composting if you're considering them instead: species, depth, distance from water and time limits.

Where are the providers that serve Dublin actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Fremont, about 11 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Dublin and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Dublin?
Usually yes. Pleasanton is about 4 miles away, San Ramon is about 6 miles away and Hayward is about 8 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
