Farm Animal Cremation in the United Arab Emirates: what to know
Rules for dead goats, sheep, pigs and poultry vary a lot within and between countries, and in the United Arab Emirates they can change from one region to the next. Time limits, burial depths, bans on composting some species and duties to report unexplained deaths are the details that matter most. Cremation fits within them almost everywhere.
Farm animal aftercare in the United Arab Emirates is shaped by livestock law more than pet law. A goat, sheep, pig or backyard hen kept as a pet is usually still treated as farmed stock, so the rules on burial, composting, collection and disease reporting are the ones written for farms. This page covers the country as a whole; each city page adds local weather, costs and practical detail.

Local customs, and where a farm pet fits
Customs around death differ widely, and in many places farm animals are simply handled by whoever collects dead stock. If you want something more personal for an animal from the United Arab Emirates, ask for it: a private cremation, a short goodbye before pickup, a keepsake clipped from the coat. Providers can usually do more than they list.
What farm animal cremation costs in the United Arab Emirates
In some countries burial of animals isn't permitted at all: Dubai's municipality, for example, says animals may not be buried in the UAE and routes them to mass cremation with nothing returned[1]. If you want your animal's own ashes in the United Arab Emirates, ask specifically for a separate (individual) cremation and get the price in writing.
Where no local crematory takes farm species, some keepers near the United Arab Emirates use a vet clinic's incinerator or a municipal facility, which usually costs little but returns nothing. If you want the ashes, ask whether the vet can arrange an individual cremation through a partner provider, and what the transport adds to the bill.
| Place | Shared | Separate (ashes back) |
|---|---|---|
| UAE | AED 700 to 900 for a pet under 5 kg[2] | AED 2,300 to 2,700 up to 30 kg[2] |
| United States, over 90 lb | $150 to $200[3] | $350 to $450[3] |
| United States, 1,000 lb horse | Not usually offered | $600-$1,000[4] |

Rules worth knowing in the United Arab Emirates
If you rent your land or keep animals on someone else's property, the landowner's say matters as much as the law. Many tenancies and grazing agreements forbid burial, and a landlord may not want a compost pile either. Cremation needs nobody's permission. Here's the general picture for pets in the United Arab Emirates; your lease may add conditions of its own.
In the UAE, animals may not generally be buried, and municipal disposal is mass cremation with nothing returned. Goats and sheep kept on private farms or estates fall under the same rules. If you want your animal's own ashes, ask a pet crematorium for a separate (individual) cremation, confirm it accepts the weight and get the price in writing.
What to do first, second and third
- Pick the spot before the vet arrives. Choose flat ground with vehicle access, like the aisle of the barn or the paddock nearest the gate, so there's little distance to move your animal once it's over.
- Book the crematory or collector first, then the vet. With the pickup time fixed, schedule the euthanasia one or two hours ahead of it, instead of the night before and a long wait in between.
- Ask the vet about sedation first. When the animal is relaxed and picking at browse or grain as the sedative takes hold, the final moment is easier on everyone around it.
- Decide who will be there. For some households, everyone stays; in others, the children go off to feed the rest of the stock and return afterwards for their own goodbye.
- Keep a companion in the next pen, within earshot but out of the way. Afterwards, if you think it would help, let it come through to look at and smell the body.
- Hand your instructions to the crew yourself: whether it's communal or private, which urn you picked, and any item you'd like back, a clipped lock of hair for instance.
Memorials that fit a smallholding
A simple wooden or stone marker by the gate, the animal's name burned into a fence post or a photo on the feed-room wall are all fitting ways to remember a hobby-farm companion. If you'd like something more permanent, a small memorial corner with a bench and a planted tree can hold ashes from more than one animal over the years.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to cremate a goat, sheep or pig in the United Arab Emirates?
Prices depend mostly on weight and whether you choose private or communal cremation, plus farm collection and mileage. A small goat often costs about the same as a large dog; a heavy pig, llama or donkey may be quoted individually or sent to a large-animal crematory. Ask for an itemized written total before you agree.
Can I get a quote for farm animal cremation in the United Arab Emirates before my animal dies?
Yes, and it's a good idea for older stock. Call a provider with the species, an honest weight and your address, and ask for a written estimate covering cremation, collection and the urn. Most are glad to answer. You can also send us a request and we'll reply by email with options that serve your area.
Where in the United Arab Emirates is farm animal cremation hardest to arrange?
Usually in the most rural areas, where crematories that accept large animals are furthest away and collection charges climb with every mile. Keepers there often deliver the animal themselves by trailer, or split a pickup with a neighbor. Ask any provider where their collection radius ends before you need them.
Do I need to report the death of a backyard chicken or pig in the United Arab Emirates?
Not usually for a single death with an obvious cause. Unexplained deaths, especially several birds or pigs in a short time, should be reported to your vet or animal health authority, because some diseases in poultry, pigs, sheep and goats are notifiable. Don't move or bury the animals until you've asked.
Does winter affect farm animal aftercare in the United Arab Emirates?
In colder places, yes. Frozen ground can make burial impossible for months, composting slows down, and snow can block farm tracks. In the United Arab Emirates, one of the coldest places we cover in the United Arab Emirates, average winter lows reach about °F. Many keepers cremate in winter and scatter or bury the ashes in spring.
Do the rules in the United Arab Emirates treat a pet pig differently from a farm pig?
Usually not. Animal-health and disposal rules tend to follow the species rather than the reason you keep it, so a pot-bellied pig that lives in the house is generally covered by the same rules as a commercial one. That can limit burial and composting. Cremation is allowed for both.
