Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Who can help with a goat, pig or sheep in Abu Dhabi
Horses and camels are part of the UAE's heritage, and Abu Dhabi has equestrian clubs, endurance stables, camel farms and goat and sheep holdings in the desert and around Al Ain, along with wildlife parks and private collections. If you care for a large animal here, your stable, farm manager or vet will usually know the routes for aftercare. Ask early whether individual cremation is available for an animal that size, as options are limited.
Desert heat compresses the timeline for large animals. A horse, camel or goat that dies in a pen in summer needs attention within hours, and the other animals should be moved into shade with water. Soft sand tracks to desert farms and stables can defeat a heavy collection vehicle, so tell your vet or provider about access, gates and ground conditions before they set out.
Traffic changes the logistics in a place like Abu Dhabi. A body that weighs 150 lb or more needs two people and a vehicle with a ramp or tail-lift, and a crew crossing the metro at rush hour may take a while to reach you. Keep the animal shaded and covered while you wait, and tell the provider about gates, tight side yards or steps so they bring the right gear the first time.
Abu Dhabi's population is around 1,483,000.

The local attitude to cremation
We don't have a reliable local cremation figure for Abu Dhabi, but you don't need one to decide. What counts is whether a provider near you accepts your species at its weight, whether the ashes come back and what the rules allow on your land. Start with your vet, who has likely answered these questions for other keepers.
Abu Dhabi weather and your animal's first hours
Whatever the season, keep a few things ready in the barn if you have older stock: a big tarp, a couple of feed sacks or an old sheet, work gloves and the number of a crematory that accepts your kind of animal. It turns the first hour after a death from a scramble into a routine you can follow even when upset.

Prices by weight for goats, sheep, pigs and birds
Because rules for livestock differ from country to country, the first call in Abu Dhabi is usually to your vet or the local veterinary authority, who will know what's allowed for a goat, sheep or pig and which crematories take them. The table shows published prices from other places as a rough guide to how weight affects cost.
The full price table by size is on our United Arab Emirates page, and the services page explains what each option includes.

Before you bury or compost in United Arab Emirates
If your animal was euthanized, the drugs remain in the body and can poison scavenging wildlife, and US drug labels have warned since 2003[4] that such animals need deep burial, incineration or another approved route. That alone rules out a shallow grave. The notes below cover the general rules in United Arab Emirates; cremation meets all of them.
In the UAE, animals may not generally be buried, and municipal disposal is mass cremation with nothing returned. Goats and sheep kept on private farms or estates fall under the same rules. If you want your animal's own ashes, ask a pet crematorium for a separate (individual) cremation, confirm it accepts the weight and get the price in writing.
Step by step, from the field to the ashes
- Say goodbye in your own way. Even when the farm is busy, you can find a few unhurried minutes in the paddock or barn.
- Keep the body shaded, covered and away from dogs or any other scavenger while you're on the phone.
- Find a provider that takes your species at its weight. Your vet will know local options, or we can send you local options.
- Choose private, communal or collection, and ask for written confirmation of which one you've booked.
- Decide how the animal gets there. Collection from the farm costs extra; taking it in your own pickup or trailer often cuts the bill a good deal.
- Plan where the ashes will go. There's no rush to settle it today; plenty of keepers hold off on scattering until an anniversary or a change of season.
Memorials that fit a smallholding
Large-animal aftercare in the UAE usually runs through stables, farms, vets and authorised municipal services, and returning ashes is not standard. If you want a memorial for a horse, camel or other large animal, ask early whether any provider can offer an individual cremation, what it costs and how long it takes. Some owners keep a braid of hair, a halter or a photograph as a keepsake instead of ashes.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Abu Dhabi?
Usually yes. Emirates Hills is about 65 miles away, Dubai is about 76 miles away and Sharjah is about 89 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I be present for my goat or pig's cremation?
Some providers offer a witnessed cremation, where you can be there as it begins. Large-animal crematories may only run big animals on certain days, so ask early. If being present isn't possible, you can still hold a short goodbye at the farm gate before collection and send a halter or a handful of hay along.
Will a pet crematory near Abu Dhabi take a goat or sheep?
Many will, but not all. Pet crematories are built around dogs and cats, and some cap weight at around 100 to 150 lb or don't take farm species at all. Give the species and an honest weight estimate on the first call. If the answer is no, ask who they'd recommend; they usually know which local providers take larger animals.
How long until I get my farm animal's ashes back?
Many families get the ashes within one to two weeks. A large animal can take longer, because the cremation itself runs for hours and the provider may batch large-animal days. If the crematory is in a larger centre away from Abu Dhabi, add time for the return trip, or arrange to collect the ashes yourself.
How much does farm animal cremation cost in Abu Dhabi?
Prices depend on weight, individual or communal cremation and collection. Published pet prices outside the US top out around the equivalent of a few hundred pounds, dollars or euros for the heaviest band, and goats, sheep and pigs usually sit at that top end or are quoted separately. Ask for a written quote in local currency.
Can I keep backyard chickens and goats in Abu Dhabi, and does that change aftercare?
Many local rules allow a few hens, and some allow miniature goats or a pet pig, usually with limits on numbers. The same rules often restrict burying livestock in built-up areas, and leases or homeowner and residents' associations can be stricter. In practice, most city keepers choose cremation, which avoids the question. Check before planning a burial.
