Eindhoven, North Brabant
Who can help with a goat, pig or sheep in Eindhoven
Many families around Eindhoven keep a horse or pony at a pension stable or a farm, sometimes for decades. If your animal is growing old, it helps to plan ahead. Talk to the stable about what happens if your horse dies there, find out which providers serve the area, and know whether ashes can be returned, so nothing has to be rushed.
North Brabant is one of the Netherlands' main farming provinces, with pig, dairy and poultry farms and plenty of horses and ponies in the countryside around Eindhoven. When a large animal dies on a farm or at a stable, tell a provider about yard access and ground conditions. Commercial livestock follows established collection channels; family horses and pets need a different arrangement.
If your animal was euthanized, the drugs stay in the body and can kill dogs, foxes and birds of prey that find it. That's why a shallow grave in the back paddock isn't a safe plan, even where burial is allowed. Around Eindhoven, most keepers in that position choose cremation, or a deep burial dug by machine. Your vet can tell you what they'd recommend for your ground.
With roughly 231,000 residents, Eindhoven is one of the North Brabant communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Utrecht, about 47 miles (76 km) away, which is where some providers serving Eindhoven are based.
For a second opinion on price, Utrecht (47 miles), Rotterdam (54 miles, a larger centre) and The Hague (66 miles, a larger centre) are close enough that their providers cover Eindhoven routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.

Cremation rates in Netherlands and your animal
The cremation habit in Netherlands, now at roughly 68.37%[1] for people, is still spreading outward from the cities. Farm pets follow the same pattern. Keepers near town usually find cremation easy to book, while those further out may be steered towards the renderer or a backhoe by default. If cremation is what you want, ask for it by name.
We take the Netherlands rate from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Eindhoven, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
What the seasons mean for farm animal aftercare in Eindhoven
Without local weather figures for Eindhoven, trust your own sense of the day. If you're comfortable in a T-shirt, treat it as warm and move quickly; if the troughs are icing over, you have more time but harder access. Farm animals don't die to a forecast, so plan for the week you're in and the one ahead.

Cremation, collection and the alternatives: costs in Eindhoven
European pet crematoria price by weight, and published examples give a feel for what a goat or sheep might cost. In France, individual cremation for a 50 kg animal is listed at €300 to €400, against €130 to €180 for collective[4]. Many European countries route farmed species to an approved rendering service by default, so confirm that a crematorium in or near Eindhoven will take your species before you book.

Burial, composting and reporting rules in North Brabant
Two things catch hobby farmers out: time limits and disease reporting. Many places expect a dead farm animal to be dealt with within a day or two, and some illnesses in pigs, poultry, sheep and goats must be reported before the body goes anywhere. Here's what applies to pets generally in North Brabant; your vet can confirm the livestock side.
In the Netherlands, dead farm animals, including sheep and goats kept as pets, are normally collected by Rendac, the national rendering service, and nothing is returned. Some dierencrematoria accept goats, sheep and smaller pigs for individual (individuele) cremation; ask about weight limits and whether collection from your address is included.
What to do when a farm animal dies in Eindhoven
- If the death was expected, there's probably a plan already agreed with your vet. Ring to fix the pickup time, and if euthanasia is at home, arrange it for early morning while it's cool.
- If it was sudden, call your vet or farm vet first. They'll tell you whether testing is worthwhile and whether the rest of the herd is at risk.
- Clear a path for collection. Open gates, move vehicles and think about how a van or trailer will reach the animal.
- Line up help. A 150 lb animal takes at least two people to move safely, plus a tarp, sled or slide board.
- Ask the provider three questions: is it truly private, how is my animal identified from the gate to the ashes, and when will the ashes come back?
- Check the rules before any burial or composting if that's what you'd rather do: which species, how deep, how far from water, and how soon.
Keeping your goat, pig or hen close
Brabant's wet winters leave pastures and tracks soft, which makes moving a horse or cow harder. In summer, speed matters more. For a family horse, pony, donkey, pet pig or goat, ask whether individual cremation with ashes returned is available, how collection from your property works and what the total cost will be. Ask, too, how far a provider will travel into the Kempen or De Peel.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Eindhoven?
The closest communities we cover are Utrecht (about 47 miles), Rotterdam (about 54 miles) and The Hague (about 66 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Eindhoven too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Is cremation common in Netherlands?
For people, yes: about 68.37%[1] of Netherlands deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Eindhoven follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Utrecht to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Utrecht (roughly 47 miles from Eindhoven) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can I bring my goat or pig to the crematory myself?
Usually yes, and it often saves the whole collection fee. Call ahead to agree a time, confirm they accept the weight and ask how they unload. A pickup or small trailer with a ramp works well; lay the animal on a tarp so it can be slid rather than lifted. Bring a helper, and don't try to lift a heavy animal alone.
What's the difference between private, partitioned and communal cremation?
Private means your animal is cremated alone and every bit of ash returned is theirs. Partitioned means several animals share the chamber but are kept apart, so the ashes are mostly, not certainly, your animal's. Communal means animals are cremated together and nothing is returned. For a named goat or pig, ask for private in writing if the ashes matter.
Do I have to report the death of a backyard hen or pet pig?
A single death with an obvious cause usually doesn't need reporting. Unexplained deaths in poultry, pigs, sheep or goats are different: several diseases in these species are notifiable, and the authorities would rather hear about a false alarm than miss an outbreak. Call your vet first; they'll know whether to involve the animal health authority.
