Seville, Andalusia
What arranging farm animal cremation in Seville is like
An Andalusian horse may carry a family through years of ferias and romerías, and a donkey, goat or old cow on a smallholding can be just as dear. Without a cremation, the family can still hold onto a plaited mane, a goat bell, the show halter or a horseshoe. Many families frame a photograph of the animal on a feast day, which becomes the memorial that stays on the wall for years.
With summer heat this intense, a large animal needs to be moved within hours rather than days. Help the collector by explaining how the cortijo is reached, how far the stable or pen is from asphalt and whether a crane lorry can turn in the yard. Those lanes can be narrow and unmarked, so sending a map pin saves time. Early morning pickups avoid the worst of the heat.
Some owners in Seville keep a mini pig indoors, and moving a 100 lb pig out of a house or apartment after death is harder than people expect. Stairs, elevators and narrow halls all matter. Tell the crew the floor, whether there's an elevator and how wide the doors are, and have a sheet ready so the body can leave discreetly.
Seville's population is around 689,000, the largest of the 4 Andalusia communities we cover.

50.11%[1]
In 2024, cremations overtook burials in Spain for the first time: 50.11% of deaths (218,538 cremations).
$600-$1,000[2]
Cremating a 1,000-pound horse was reported to cost about $600-$1,000, depending on location and the price of propane.
3-5% of body weight[3]
Embrace notes cremated remains typically weigh about 3-5% of the pet's original body weight.
We built the this numbers from Extension Horses (eXtension national Cooperative Extension) and Embrace Pet Insurance, and both are worth a look if you want the detail.

Burial, cremation and farm tradition in Spain
With cremation at about 50.11%[1] for people in Spain, providers here serve a mixed market, and not all of them have met a goat. When you ring, describe the animal plainly: species, weight, horned or not, and whether it was euthanized. A provider who asks sensible follow-up questions has usually done this before.
The Spain figure comes from Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
When the weather sets the timetable in Seville
Whatever the season, keep a few things ready in the barn if you have older stock: a big tarp, a couple of feed sacks or an old sheet, work gloves and the number of a crematory that accepts your kind of animal. It turns the first hour after a death from a scramble into a routine you can follow even when upset.

Cremation, collection and the alternatives: costs in Seville
By our estimate, individual cremation across the markets we track costs about double the shared option[4], and for a heavy animal the gap in euros grows. Around Seville, check whether VAT is included and whether collection from a rural address is priced per kilometre. A written quote naming the species avoids surprises at the door.

Rules worth knowing in Andalusia
If your animal was euthanized, the drugs remain in the body and can poison scavenging wildlife, and US drug labels have warned since 2003[6] that such animals need deep burial, incineration or another approved route. That alone rules out a shallow grave. The notes below cover the general rules in Andalusia; cremation meets all of them.
In Spain, dead farm animals, including sheep, goats and pigs kept as pets, are normally handled by authorised collection under EU animal by-product rules, and many are covered by livestock insurance schemes. If you want your animal's ashes, ask a pet crematorium whether it takes farm species at your animal's weight and confirms individual cremation in writing.
What to do when a farm animal dies in Seville
- Ask the clinic what happens if you give no instructions. The default at a lot of practices is to pass farm animals to a renderer or into a communal cremation.
- Say plainly if the ashes should come home, then have the staff note "private cremation" on the record while you're still there.
- Raise the question of a post-mortem now. It's far easier to arrange while the body is still at the clinic than once it has gone to the crematory.
- Find out who bills you. Some practices add the cremation to their own invoice; others hand you the crematory's number to pay directly.
- Ask for the halter, collar or tag to be kept for you, and a few feathers or a snip of fleece too if you haven't already taken one.
- Plan the evening at home. The others may call out for the animal that hasn't returned with you; a familiar routine and a little extra hay go a long way.
Memorials that fit a smallholding
Andalusia is one of Europe's great livestock regions: during Seville's April Fair the fairground fills with horses and carriages, the Guadalquivir marshes graze cattle, and the Sierra Norte raises Iberian pigs in oak dehesa. Goats, sheep and donkeys live on farms all around the city. When a large animal dies, your vet or farm manager usually arranges removal; individual cremation is scarce in Spain, so ask early whether it is possible.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Seville?
Usually yes. Marbella is about 86 miles away, Malaga is about 98 miles away and Granada is about 132 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do Spain attitudes to cremation compare?
Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024) puts the Spain human cremation rate at about 50.11%[1]. We show it on the Seville page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Is there anywhere in Seville that takes a 200 lb pig or a llama?
In a metro like Seville, the pet crematories inside the city may stop well short of 200 lb, but equine and large-animal crematories on the rural fringe often take big pigs, llamas and donkeys. Ask your farm vet which one they use. Some charge by the pound, and delivering the animal yourself by trailer can lower the price.
Can I be present for my goat or pig's cremation?
Some providers offer a witnessed cremation, where you can be there as it begins. Large-animal crematories may only run big animals on certain days, so ask early. If being present isn't possible, you can still hold a short goodbye at the farm gate before collection and send a halter or a handful of hay along.
Who do I call first if a farm animal dies at night in Seville?
If the death was expected and the animal is safe from scavengers, you can usually wait until morning: shade, cover and call your vet or the crematory first thing. If it was sudden, or several animals are ill, call an emergency or farm vet that night. Collection itself can wait for daylight in most weather.
How long until I get my farm animal's ashes back?
Many families get the ashes within one to two weeks. A large animal can take longer, because the cremation itself runs for hours and the provider may batch large-animal days. If the crematory is in a larger centre away from Seville, add time for the return trip, or arrange to collect the ashes yourself.
